This school discriminates against special needs children

This school and the Yukon School District is clueless when it comes to Special needs children.

My son, who is 9 years old, suffers from ADHD, Outburst Behavior Disorder, and Anxiety. He is on a number of medications and sees a councelor and Psychiatrist on a regular basis.

Last year the Principal, Beverly Kindred, struck my son in front of several students for running away from a bully in the cafeteria. She didn't inform me of this, which is against school policy, a parent is supossed to be present when a child is administered corporal punishment. I found out about this from my daughter and some of her friends when they arrived home from school that day.

The following morning I called the Administrator over the Elementary schools and spoke to him. His attitude was Oh Well! I couldn't believe it! Then I spoke to Mrs. Kindred and her attitude was pretty much the same.

Due to the hours that my son's councelor and Psychiatrist work he has to miss some school to meet with them. Today I get a letter from the District that my son may be held back because of the time he has missed school.

Before my son was put on his meds, his teachers complained about how he behaved in school. Now they are punishing him for being disabled and making him abide by the same rules as a child without disabilities!

I have friends who's children also suffer from mental illness and also attend this school. When these kids act up because of their disabilities, Mrs. Kindred's solution is to call the police and give the parents a choice of having their child institutionalized or face criminal charges! I know of three kids that this has happened to.

If children talk during breakfast or lunch, they are told to dump their trays and go stand against a wall! What is this a concentration camp?! Last time I checked there is something called freedom of speech in this country!

In my opinion there is nobody at this school or in this entire District who is properly trained to handle Special Needs children and that is sad! No Child Left Behind my Butt!

Something needs to be done before they find themselves involved in a lawsuit! My husband has filed complaints with the State School Board and the USDA. We'll see what happens.
