University Of Phoenix Demanding payment for withdrawl when they took their time doing paper work

I was a single mother of three children. I was trying to finish what I started years ago and had just graduated from a community college back in 2006. I had planned to get my bachelor degree in business so I sought after University of Phoenix after speaking to representatives.

I recieved a grant and loan which both went to the University not me.in all, the amount recieved was about $5000.00 and they got all of it.

I was in my second class when I was having finincial difficulties keeping my internet on. When I explained this to my advisor over and over, the only thing they could say was I had to withdrawl before a certain date. I asked when was the date and I was never given a date. I repeatedly call and tried to withdrawl quickly but to no avail.

Finally, I talked to my finanicail aid advisor and told him my issue. He said I would have to pay if I withdrawl. But I didn't understand that and when I asked he went around the way with explainations. I knew I was unable to keep my internet on and told him it would be off in a couple of days and I would not be able to attend any classes. But, the things I was told was that if I withdrawl I would have to pay them for withdrawl after a certain date.

So as of now they have sent me to a collection agency demanding payments. I tried to make arrangements with them but the arrangements where far from what I could pay. I explained that to the collection agenecy and they will not go any lower. I have sent in payments, since this is on my credit report. This does not seem right, since they have been paid for three classes which I only took two. I did not recieve any of the grant or loan, they recieve all of it. I tried to withdrawl early enough and had good reason and to no avail did I recieve any help.
