NATIONAL MAGAZINE EXCHANGE Magazine Subscription Ripoff CLEARWATER Florida...

When I was getting ready to relocate from Santa Rosa, CA to the Palm Springs area in early 11/02, I got a call apparently from sales/telemarketers from National Magazine Exch. I told them I was in the process of moving and they literally insisted the "special" was for at least two magazine subscriptions and I only wanted one. I took two magazines, and wanted them for only 1 year and no more.

I get relocated to the Palm Springs, CA area and I start receiving billing invoices from National Magazine Exchange for $215.95 and I immediately wrote back to them and told them to cancel the subscriptions because I would have never in my right mind ever ordered ANY magazine subscriptions beyond $20-$30. I never received an acknowledgement of that communication. Now I receive a collection agency notice from North Shore Agency, Inc.in Westbury, New York PO Box 8909 Westbury, NY 11590-8909 that has three bold/capped statements:

Statement of Recovery

1. North Shore Agency has been retained to recover the monies owed our client. We are very good at it, and pursue payment diligently.

2. This is an attempt to collect a debt and any information obtained will be used for that purpose.
Statement of your Indebtedness

1. Your failure to resolve this debt has caused your account to be placed with this professional collection agency.
Statement of our Intentions

1. Diligent collection of your account. Govern yourself accordingly.

2. Without your response, be prepared for continued collection contact. To make full payment, make your check payable to North Shore Agency and mail it in the enclosed envelope...

Threatening to say the least! When I called their listed 800-877-0931 this evening after work, they aren't even open.
