Education & Science

A. There was an absence of gross negligence or abuse.

1. It may not have been in the form of violence or gross abuse like sexual assault but there was an abuse and negligence in the form of absent of professionalism to the extent pain and suffering through series of frustration and vain effort. There was a series of presentation where the professor would not pay attention, slouch off, or ill manner and he would seldom ask series of questions to the students about their presentations, which resulted for him into a bad grade and to me also because the student and I was unpreparedhow to response, and the students showed quite effort to present.

For example of an economic news presentation on foreign exchange on a specific article, then the professor would ask questions about how it affected the America economy, how long did the rates exchange, what will the market be like, series of questions that will leave the student not knowing how to respond.

2. He would also discuss things during presentation and lectures that is totally unrelated on the current subject. Such as he would talk about much of the communist and the word war for a few weeks or something that may be related to economics that is about new inventions, but the student is still up in the platform, and the professor was discussing it among few (favorite) students.

3. Another point is I would ask a question, and said aloud to the class I have a question, he would go on lecturing, while the students at the background would laughed. This happened frequently until it came to the point that asking for help was useless and trying to understand the homework problem or what he was lecturing as well did not helped.

4. Another instance is after the exam was over we would go over the test questions and state, Do you have any questions from 1-20,21-35,35-45), leaving to ask questions difficult because the students have to look at it quickly because he leaves only a few seconds (7-10 seconds) until he moves on to the next set of questions.

5. During asking questions on test questions, I would ask a question for explanation, but the professor would ask the students (who have it correct to explain it for him - which was still confusing and did not help, so I let the question remained unresolved, this happen to other students as well) and this went on continually until, his favorite students ask a question they got wrong, and the professor would ask for volunteers if not, the professor would try to explain it but the favorite students were left confuse as well, until they came to the point they got frustrated, and didn't want to understand the problem anymore, this continue on later as well and through the other exams also. I am not aware how his students outside of this class react to his lack of professionalism teaches but I was given some chance that I came across with a few students and spoke with them and they said the same thing. Everyone fail each exam, and a curve was given, and I was point away from a passing the course.

B. The professor did not treated all students in a consistent manner.

1. The professor did not treat all students in a consistent manner but only to the selected few, favorite students. Many students included I had a presentation when asked about in the beginning of class by the professor, Is there anyone have a presentation today, but the professor ignored some and allowed some other to do theirs (most are favorite students).

2. Things got heated up when some people did not have a chance to do their presentations and the professor needed to stop. And few students argue because they were assign to do that date while the rest was ignored, I still remember (Grace Fong, Tracy Monroe, and someone else not sure what was her name) ones who were assign on that date Grace Fong states, I voluntary assign to do one, and I am going to present, while Tracy Monroe and another student stated the same but the professor state, I did not record anything in my book saying you were assign to present, but both of the student stated, I talked with you after the class was over and you said I will record it later; which implies the professor was forgetful all the time. Therefore, this shows that the professor does not show a consistent manner to all students including the students who were denied for doing their presentation as well.

(Grace Fong did not reply to my email I sent, I suspect she did not want to deal with the problem, but Tracy Monroe replied and I have meet with her and supported my claim)
1. Not to be considered because he does not respect university standards.

C. Complaints and comments I received from students that supports my claim -

1. Did you see or thought there was a gross negligence or
abuse that you saw how Dr. Hakim taught during you Summer
Session 2 class? Yes, he always seemed just call upon only a
few selected students.

2. Did the professor treated all students in a consistent
manner? NO, this was one thing I noticed the most throughout my time in class. The professor has a few selected students that he would always call upon and talk to and it was apparent that there was a lot of favoritism in the class.

3. Given the fact that overall students performed well, should it be taken as a defense for Dr. Hakim, or was his performance lead you to performed well? No, because if students feel like they are not being supported by their teachers and neglected, they will not perform as well as the others. It is important for the professor to treat each student equally so each student can feel comfortable in the classroom atmosphere.

Hello Daniel:
I was in Professor Hakim's class this summer session 2.

He was a very nice guy and curved his tests so it was
basically impossible to fail, but the way in which he taught
class was not beneficial to students.

All he did was draw charts and graphs on the board. He would encourage students to ask questions, but would never stop a lecture to explain the answer, he would ask students to wait and he would go over after he was finished, leaving students confused through the rest of the lecture.

He would also add or change dates of assignments or tests at a whim, which could either benefit or have a negative affect on students because they would be so last minute.

Overall, he just seemed like he was just there to make his money and felt like we should understand everything that the book was teaching us; because we definitely weren't learning much from him

Hello Daniel,

I would have to agree with you regarding the class,
professor and tests. I failed the class even though I have never failed a class before. The tests were not based off of the homework and lectures he provided and didnt give prompt feedback regarding the tests. If you need anymore info let me know.

Thank you,

Hello,
I took that class and i failed. I'm taking it again this
semester. Having a F, it is easy for me to say negative stuff but Dr Hakim didn't help us out a lot. The material for the midterms were so heavy, at the beginning we were so slow and and he started tom speed up skeeping some stuff we are ot supposed to know. I don't know how he manages his classes during the spring and fall but the summer sessions are definately not for him.

Dear Daniel: I would like to say that his summer secession II with Dr. Hakim was terrible at best. He demonstrated favoritism amongst the students in the class. He would attack certain students when they gave their presentations and not others. Dr. Hakim was very arrogant and displayed a sense of nonchalance as far as caring about our education. I do not believe he should be teaching at Temple University since he lacks the professionalism to be a professor period. I would like to know if this complaint will assist in granting the
individuals who have taken Professor Hakim's class in the summer some sort of new grade since it seems as if he gave everyone in my class "C's".
Best Wishes,

I felt that Dr Hakim did a poor job conducting this class. He barely taught what was on the tests, therefore having to curve the tests ridiculous amounts. His classes were pointless and many times he did not answer students questions and went on with whatever he felt was important leaving questions unanswered. Half way through the session I stopped going to most classes because it was a complete waste of my time, he didnt teach, I got through the class on in the way he spoke, he always talked down to students, which probably wasnt all that intentional, but still. It wasn't a good class and I can't say I learned anything from him.

Daniel,
I don't think that he handled the class properly as well, and if you want to file what do u suggest.

Tracy Monroe

Tua55541@temple. Edu

I didn't like his teaching style at all. His lectures weren't structured enough for a 5-week course, which he loaded with more than enough material to keep the class busy. He projected too many of his personal political views in his lectures, which were kind of offensive to anyone paying attention. He didn't allow many students to speak because he wanted to spend most of the time attempting to lecture and continually going off topic to ramble about numerous things irrelevant to the course. He even canceled a day of class at the end of the semester that could have been used for catching up presentations that were to be completed by the last day.instead, presentations were cut short and I didn't
get to do one. Being as though it was a summer course, I felt that he should have been more time sensitive with his lesson plan and teaching style. I passed my exams because I took it upon myself to study ahead on my own time. I was satisfied with my grade because he was fair considering the fact that the semester ended in a rush job. Overall, I was not satisfied with Dr. Hakim as a professor.

D. Conclusion

Case was denied for review because it was not severe enough - vice provost Peter Jones. And so it was never reviewed.

*note Asst. Dean Debbie Campbell mentions no one has ever been reviewed at Provost"

E. How does this relates to America?

Listen to our congressman Ron Paul criticism and comments of our Federal Reserve and watch the documentary " Freedom to Fascism " at google video.
