Ripoff credit card scam in full effect

Credit card scam; even through the Holiday season BEWARE!!! Dishonest ripoffs...

I was contacted early Sunday morning by Freedom Resource about being approved for a credit card with a $2500.00 credit limit. I was alittle apprehensive because I didn't remember applying for credit with them. When I mentioned my concern to the woman, she told me I hadn't directly applied with them, but with another co. Within the past year. She said even though I had not been approved with that co., my application was turned over to them and I met their requirements. All I would need is a one time membership fee payment of $221.95, which would have to be debitted from my checking account.

Now, I feel like I'm a very careful person, and that I would never fall for a scam, but that's exactly what happened. I thought I was asking all the right questions, and even moreso they had all the right answers. Even willingly giving me their web address when I asked. Well needless to say I went ahead and gave my checking account info.

I could have kicked myself in the butt when I tried to pull up their website and found it was nonexistent, and worst than that, when I typed in their name and this website popped up, I could have croaked. I immediately called my bank's customer service and tried to get the transaction stopped, but was told by a very cold phone rep that because I willingly gave out my info, nothing could be done.

That was about the most unacceptable thing she could have told me because I hopped in my car sooo fast, got to the closest ATM, and withdrew every dollar I could, and what I couldn't, well let's just say I finish my Xmas shopping that day with. The next morning, I closed my account! I owe many thanks to this website, and everyone who took the time to tell their story.
