Stealing from teenagers trying to make a living

Education & Science

As an 18 year old struggling on my own, I decided to use a portion of my grandmother's small inheritence and further my education. I opted for Ashworth's flexible schedual and affordable price. I paid the $600 in full for the Interior Decorating Program.

From the very first shipment there were items missing. I didnt recieve graph paper or any of the creative materials they said I would. When asked, after several emails and phone conversations with ignorant Customer Service, they said the web site for my course hadnt been updated, and I wouldnt recieve those materials. I went to Office Max and spent over $100 on my own materials.

I worked through my first three or four lessons quickly with ease. I began to look forward to an exciting new job. When The Online exam I came to demanded a Supplement, said to be found in My lesson book, it was nowhere to be found. Way too many numerous emails and phone calls later it was emailed to me. The quality of the photo copy was so bad, my measurements of the lines were terribly inaccurate and I did poorly.

But i still progressed to lesson four, and completed that with ease. I did well on my final exam for the first section, and I was told on the website I would be getting another shipment, including a book, lettering stencil, foam board, and instructions for the next section. The website didnt update so I could get instructions from it about what to do. I couldnt continue my studies.

When i recieved the shipment, it was a book. No instructions, nothing. When called numerous times and speaking with a lot of different people and answering machines, the promised me on three occasions three consecutive days their Tech Team was "right on it". Still couldnt continue, it didnt update by the forth day.

I called back and officially demanded a refund. He sneered and said it wasnt gonna happen. Luckily, I had reviewed my agreement and explained I hadnt completed 25% of my course. Acting suprised he said I could get $427 of the $600. It wasnt good enough, I demanded to speak to a supervisor. He put me through to a voicemail. Keep in mind I have a pre-paid cell phone, no house phone, and I'm working two jobs to feed my cat. These calls and being on hold and being randomly "disconnected" were costing me a lot of money.

All and all, when I finally did get through to the supervisor, she said $427 was the final offer. I was able to give her a nice earful, she listened quietly like told by the scumbags that trained her. I suppose Im fortunate enough to have the $427, but Im sympathetic to the people who have lost a lot more.
