University Of Phoenix
Constant phone tag, counselors will not return calls, overpriced ripoff tuition!

Education & Science

I attended the University of Phoenix for a while, since early this year. Boy, did I make a mistake. While my student loans and federal aid were being distributed, they still overcharged me for my classes. When I tried to withdraw, the counselors were being very threatening to me, telling me that I had to reimburse them for my student loans and federal aid? Last that I read, wouldn't I have to pay back Sallie Mae -myself-? And isn't financial aid a "grant", which means I don't have to pay it back, but I can stop it if I do decide not to further education at any time?

University of Phoenix is nothing but a greedy, corporate, scamming house of crap. I wish I would've done my homework before choosing it as my school. However, I couldn't say no, they wouldn't let me in the first place! So that was the trap right there that I was, unfortunately, foolish enough to fall into.

And if you get or have had Alysse Davidson as a student advisor or whatever in the past, I feel sorry for you having to put up with her. I didn't like her when I first talked to her, and she was totally condescending up to the end. I can't believe that anyone would hire a person like that in a so-called "professional" setting to represent them. She even sent threatening, bitchy voicemails when I was trying to withdraw from these classes, trying to force me to make up the work or face the consequences.

Also, the "reading materials" we had to use were absolutely horrible, the websites we were directed to find anything were almost completely unnavigable. There are no excuses whatsoever to miss class, according to them. I can think of plenty of valid excuses.

I sent a voicemail to the financial councelor after receiving a letter saying I owed them $1,065.00. FOR WHAT?! I don't even -make - that kind of money in a week. And they expected me to pay it the next day or it would be sent to collections. Any money like that was being saved back to see my mom, and I took that money to pay for it even though I knew that I shouldn't have done that.

At the point where I stopped taking classes, I was no longer taking them, nor did I wish to continue, so I was waiting to be withdrawn.in all common sense, why should I have to pay for classes that I chose not to finish (and didn't)? Wasn't Sallie Mae and my financial aid covering my classes (finished or not) at all?

I know they only cover so much, but the tuition in general is too high and they only take out a minimum percentage to cover whatever they think is appropriate instead of evenly distributing funds as needed. And my total aid was something in the neighborhood of 15,000 dollars, from both the loan and financial aid, which I was told would cover everything until I graduated. If anything, I should, after even distribution of funds, owe only about half or at least between a third and half of what they decided to charge me.

I believe that I didn't have to pay back the University, but after being threatened with collections, I had to pay from my meager savings to get them off my back. It is their responsibility to reimburse my student loan company for undistributed loan money, but it is not my responsibility to repay the University for student loans I would've had to pay back to Sallie Mae. That money was not even the university's to begin with! UofPhoenix NEVER lent me money! So why am I paying them anything back? Something seems crooked...

Honestly, am I missing something? Should I have paid what I did back to that crooked establishment to get them to leave me alone?

I learned NOTHING at this school. Their classes absolutely SUCKED. How anyone could learn anything at this place is a mystery to me. All of the "missing assignment" messages were automated, not personal. It began to convince me that these teachers don't care about anything but a paycheck.

I only make so much. It took me around a year to save that kind of money, which I was saving to see my mom in Boston and spend time with her. Now, it's been used to get these assholes to get off my back.

I want to join a group to sue the pants off this f-ed up, rip-off diploma mill. I just want my money back that they had no right to take!
