Education & Science

I have read several reports on here and people who have gone through the same and similar situations as myself. I enrolled in the University of Phoenix in Jan. 2007. At the beginning of the whole ordeal myself and my friend were told it would cost $6,722 a year. Not bad and willing to pay. As I start taking classes and get through the enrollment my counselor was brand new. We were told someone would contact us to do a walk through online from our homes so that we would know how everything worked when we got started. Nothing... NO HELP! We figured it out on our own since it's not too hard. Once this took place we were on our way with no help from our counselor. Our academic and financial counselors changed weekly!!!

It was never consistent. We were told they raised their rates and we had to pay right now or we couldn't start our next block of classes and they apologized for the shortage but blamed it on the lender and stated that they had to have the money. We paid and kept going. I get my 1098 T at the end of the year and low and behold I have paid UOP $11,000 and some change. Where did my $6722 go? My friend and I took the exact same amount of classes and some how paid different amounts. The process has been a nightmare the whole way through. My friend had failed a class because she had things going on and was told only at that point that she owed $1000. She was never told about fees for dropping or failing. She set up a payment plan and began to pay the school. Shortly after this I had to drop two classes and was informed that this would cost me $100 per week I met attendance. I informed my friend of this and she was livid as the class she failed she had not met attendance in for the last 6 weeks of the 9 week course. She was never given any options or told their would be a financial out of pocket nor was I. We learned everything on our own as our counselors were terrible and revolving. I actually had to ask (she did too) to be removed from one counselor because he was so rude and abrasive! What kind of counselor is that? I was removed and placed with someone else though I have to say their service is no better.

I am interested in finding out if there are currently any ongoing class action law suits. I found a lawyer on line who seems to be apart of one and contacted them as I am at my wit's end. I ask my counselor where the $11,000 went when I only took 9 classes at a $1000 a piece this is $9,000 and the university says I OWE THEM??? I have seen several people on here say that they are interested in a class action suit... Anyone have any ideas or any one know of anything on going? I have no problems getting a group together and even having to be the person to contact the lawyers??? Someone Help??!!
