Champlain College in Burlington Vermont says it "requires every student to register their vehicle with the school." This mean submitting their plate number and car description.

Great. No harm done. Parking needs to be managed.

But here's the catch. Along the streets surrounding (that are not residential parking only) on Maple South Willard are fine to park on by the city of Burlington. So for instance, if you were a resident of the city, or were visiting, you do not need a parking pass nor do you need permission to park on these streets.

However, if you register a vehicle with Champlain College, you need to purchase a parking permit for $150 per semester to park on those very same streets.

Here's the catch, If you register your vehicle plate number (as they say is Mandatory) and then choose NOT to purchase a pass because you now live off campus, you will be fined $50 a POP!

So I can park in on the street that is otherwise FREE to park on by anyone in the world. But the minute I register my car with the college, I am required to pay $150 a semester to to park in the same spot.

On top of this all, tickets go up to $75 on second offenses and the college threatens to hold grades and graduation (which does NOT happen).in the event you don't pay, the amount is automatically charged to your student debts.
