Check scam - don't be a victim

Last month I received a letter and a check telling me that I was now part of their company due to my recent job search. I was to be a paid consumer researcher. My first task was to take this $4,970.25 check and send a money gram to Martha (use my last name) in the amount of $4,420.00 and complete a report of how I was treated. Then I was to shop with 100.25 of the check at a popular retail store and again make a report, and keep my purchases. Both reports are to be faxed to their number.

Of course the offer looks great, but before I did anything I did a little bit of investigation. I tracked out the fictisious address given on the letter, and cross refenced the phone number to Canada. I even went as far as to call the number. The man on the other end of the line obviously not from the US, speaking with an accent tells me his name is "Michael Brown". He tells me this is the first of my two probational assignments. BEWARE he sounds official and professional.

I contacted the owner of the check and they were very informative. PEOPLE DO NOT TRY TO CASH OR DEPOSIT THESE CHECKS YOU WILL GO TO JAIL!

Also be aware that today I received a second scam from Atlantic Lottery Corporation. Same deal. I have also been receiving numerous phone calls at home wanting me to do work from home jobs. The last person I spoke with said that I filled out an application on line showing an interest in a work from home job and they traced me back through my IP address. Hence all the calls and now all the letters.
