My wife and I have recently bought a new home and was in the process of trying to get approval of an individual to park the company truck on his property. I called night dispatch and we got on a conference call with the local oklahoma city con-way terminal mamager with my situation. Both told me to drop the trailer at the yard and b-tail back home. Just lock the trailer and don't list it as dropped even though i was on home time. I did just that.

I went back to get my trailer when i was back on duty and assigned a load only to find ryan had given my trailer to a driver who was too lazy to drive 15 miles to get a different trailer. Ryan instructed him to cut my lock and i'd need to pay for it. I called him (Ryan) upon discovery of what i had reported to local authorities as a stolen trailer. S.O.P. So i thought.

He jumped all over me about that. "You had no authority to report it" he stated." and furthermore, i needed that trailer to cover a load. It had a lock on so i had the driver cut it off and take it." You are in direct violation of a company policy (which he never could tell me which policy). Then he proceeded to belittle me. I'm 49 and i told him he would show me some respect. He's a 22 year old snot nose kid and thinks he knows more about trucking than aq million miler (which i'm not but i do have 750k under my wheels.)

He got mouthier with me and accused me of crossing the line to being insulting when i told him to use some common sense. I told him he should've sent the driver to a yard out on the west side of oklahoma city to get a empty trailer. All Ryan could keep saying is you were wrong and violated company policy. You have to replace your lock regardless.

I spoke to my fleet manager Jeff Charles who said i was right about dropping the trailer since permission was given. He had no idea of which policy it was ryan said i broke. I guess they record your calls cause just sure as hell when i told my fm i felt like draggin little boy Ryan out of dispatch and dustin 32nd st with his ass it got turned over to Grant Lavelle (head of security).

I was deadheaded me from roswell, nm (where i had sat in a cold truck for 16 hours due to cfi's poor excuse of a maintenance department said the truck was up to par) after customer service blew a load. They were 5 days late in dispatching someone to cover the load. I got to joplin and grant showed me the recorded (it was on a typed statement) chat ryan and I and Jeff and I had. I was given the choice of resigning or being fired.

I chose to be fired. Funny thing is when i was doing my checkout procedures i was telling a few folks in safety what happened. They knew who i was talking about without me even saying who. I got a "Ryan Cupp" in perfect unison.

Since con-way bought cfi out it has steadily went downhill in business and miles. My last 3 check were all less than $300 for a week. I made 38cpm. My advice is run as fast as you can in the opposite direction when cfi/conway truckload comes calling. Now to hear Herb Schmidt tell it we merged and con way agreed to leave out trucks just like they were and a new name would be painted on them that both could agree on. Yeah? Right herb. Explain how conway truckload is cfi's new name and you turned the governors back from 70 to 65.

Now here's a good example of their fantastic maintenance department. 18n hours to change a simple low beam headlight. They won't let you have a light and do the work yourself. Great great maintenance department. I wouldn't allow them to work on my grandkids tricycles.
