A.P. Customer Service Evaluation - Secret Shopper Employment Offer by Mail with a Letter and a $2490.00 check

Education & Science

Yesterday, I received an envelope with no return address with a Canada postmark. Enclosed was a letter with the company name A.P. Customer Service Evaluation, Inc. On top. It was an offer for employment as a secret shopper.

This letter describes a PAID training assignment as a secret shopper. You are to call the company first to activate the check, deposit the check into your bank account, purchase a $50 item of your choice at Wal-Mart, a $50 item of your choice at J.C. Penney, then do a money gram transaction in the amount of $2100.00 with an $80.00 transaction fee, leaving $210.00 for training pay and expenses.

Sounds good, right? It sounded like pretty easy money to me... Maybe a little too easy. So I thought I would go online and check it out just to be sure it was not some elaborate scheme to get checking account information. They're not asking for money up front, but they are telling you to deposit their check into your bank account.

First, I tried to google A.P. Customer Service Evaluation, Inc., and found nothing. I tried to call the number included on their letter, but only got a recorded message saying, "The customer you are calling is unavailable at the moment... Please try again later."

Next, I googled secret shopper employment and found this complaint. Lo and behold, there was someone who received a letter and check identical to mine, with the check being returned unpaid, and this individual out a sum of $2940.00.

Now, I also wanted to make everyone aware that the envelope I received was from Canada, and the address at the bottom of my letter was from Barrie Ontario. The address on the check itself, however, was from A.P. Management Service in Omaha, Nebraska (the word management being misspelled on the check, by the way).

I am very thankful for complaint, as this is not the first time that reading such reports has saved me a lot of time, money, and aggravation. I hope that the person who wrote the other complaint gets this resolved very quickly. I cannot understand how she could be told by her bank that this check had cleared, and then be told a few days later that it had not.

I am willing to write or speak to whomever I have to, to help stop these people. They prey on hardworking folks, many of whom going through very hard times already. It's a disgrace.

Again, I hope this letter helps someone, and best of luck to everybody.
