University Of Phoenix/Axia College
Deceptive Marketing

Education & Science

The University of Phoenix is using deceptive marketing/enrollment practices. U of P has an outstanding reputation for excellence in adult learning. However, their affiliate/partner Axia College, is a joke! Axia enrollment counselors are like minimum wage telemarketers. When you call for information and go through enrolling, they barely understand the procedures. They cannot and will not answer any questions about the entire degree programs. They don't know what happens after you obtain an associates level degree. A student is FORCED to use Axia in order to pass through the first two years worth of general education required for any four year degree. This is deceptive. You think you are working with U of P but they sluff you onto Axia for a few years. Only online classes are available, and they are a joke! The textbooks used are so random. Some are easy to use, helpful, and self-explanatory. Others are ridiculously hard to read/understand. You are told when you enroll that you can work at your own pace, even weeks ahead. This is not true because every other week you are required to post comments replying to other students. That has to be done during the specific week, not weeks earlier as implied. The instructors are all but non-existent! They are idiots! They add NO value. I have corrected several of mine. I did not quit because this school was hard.in 3 weeks I will finish my 9th and final class in order to receive my AA in Business (had some prior college courses that transferred in). I would not recommend this BOZO college (Axia) to anyone, and would steer people away from getting ripped off. I have had three academic counselors in the past 12 months. None had a clue. None could give me ANY information about how much/what courses would be required for me to continue on after the AA in order to earn my bachelors. Finally, after threatening to withdraw from school, I was transferred to a very knowledgeable, professional counselor who worked for U of P who was able to answer all my questions. Was that so hard? I have had 4 financial counselors in the past 12 months. Once I received a $930 check in the mail and had no idea why. For some reason the school cashed my loan check and paid me, but then I was responsible for making the payment back to the school for classes. I was given a last minute email notice (no letter or phone call) with the threat that if I didn't pay by Monday (on Friday) that my next courses would be cancelled. I don't believe that any of the 8 "counselors" assigned to me are college grads themselves. Two admitted that they are currently taking online classes themselves. They were all idiots so I stopped communicating with them. If you are interested in earning your degree and are already a junior level student or above, seek U of P - it's still a great school and I have many friends/relatives who have attended. If you are just a hs grad or have some college but no AA, don't bother. You will be sluffed off to Axia College and that place is a joke!!! P.S. They also added one class at the END of my courses 1/2 way through the program saying that I needed more math to graduate - why didn't they tell me this upfront? Another $1,000. Also, they rose prices of all classes by 20% 6 weeks after I started the program. And, you have to download and print ALL your course materials - get ready to invest a LOT in toners and paper!!!
