Tuition RIP OFF!

I'll keep this short.

I attended ECPI for 3 months in the IT/NETSEC degree plan. I was active duty Army at the time and attended school at night. I was told by the tuition department that the cost of tuition would be civered by a combination of Stafford loans (subsidized and unsubsidized), the Montgomery GI Bill, and the Army Tuition Assistance Program.

I received notification in the third month of school that DA had place me on assigment to Korea. I explained the situation to ECPI and they said withdrawal was my only option, as finishing the degree outside the classroom was impossible. I withdrew from the course on the 5th day of the semester. On my way out, I asked the tuition department if I still owed the school any money. They said "NO."

Over a year later, a collection agency is hounding me claiming that I owe ECPI over 5000 dollars. I contacted ECPI to clarify the situation and was told that even though I did not finish the degree, I am still expected to pay for it. Their justification has something to do with the "Federal Pro-rata Refund Program, " which is something they claim is in the contract and "not in fine print." I neither read anything of this sort in the contract, nor was I briefed on the subject upon enrollment.

This after being told I had no further obligation to the school. This after being placed on military assignment and forced to withdraw due to a lack of infrastructure supporting off-site education within ECPI. This after dealing with inept "professors" who merely sat in the front of the room reading fantasy novels while my classmates and I ran through the Cisco online academy courseware and paying roughly 1000 dollars a month to do so.

This school is dishonest in its advertising, dishonest in the classroom, and dishonest in its financial dealings with students. Steer clear of these people at all costs. They are not a school at all. They are a FRANCHISE. Just like McDonald's. Stay clear.

As for me, I will see these thieves in court.
