Okay this is kind of a complicated story so i'll start here.in february of this year my cousin and i moved into a beautiful 2 bedroom 2 bathroom condo that we rented from bryan schults and his wife for $975.00 a month. We never had a late rent payment and kept up on the condition of the condo.in september of this year my cousin got a job promotion and had to transfer to colorado springs, her company paid the remainder of her half of the rent through this coming february. Logically, my obligation would be to pay my portion of the rent each month until the termination of the lease, which would be $487.50 a month.
My landlord is now saying that the lease we signed is null and void due to my cousin leaving the premesis. Now he wants me to sign a new 6 month lease for the full $975.00 a month. He is trying to pull a fast on on me.
I don't understand how the lease we originally signed can be voided if it was not paid in full, and without my knowledge.
If anyone can help me understand the legal side of this that would be helpful.
Is what he's trying to do illegal? Can my lease be voided without my knowledge?
