Education & Science

I have thought for a long time that it was all a lie but I honestly wanted to believe that I was good enough to be published. When I was 16 I wrote allot of poetry and finally decided to enter a poem. I was so excited when I found out it was being published. I told everyone and I wanted to buy the book but could not afford it and my Mom would not buy it for me. I was so upset. I then found out I was 1 of 10 poems that would be on a tape called the sound of poetry. Following that, I found out about the seminar and all the awards. I just could not believe that someone out there thought I was that good.

I later stopped writing and I think I also lost the knack for it as well. Then my grandmother died and I had no idea how to deal with it so I wrote a poem called I Love You, Good-bye. I entered it in because everyone said it was such a great poem. Again, I got all the same letters as before. This was now 10 years after the first poem I entered. I became a little skeptical about all of it when I found out that all my friends that also write poetry and had entered the contest were receiving all the same letters. My next guess was that if you write a poem, you receive the notifications.

I decided to test my theory, so I entered a poem of nothing but babbling words that had absolutely no meaning and guess what, my poem was selected to be a finalist and to be published; I had won the awards and everything. Yeah ok whatever. I think I was only affected because the one poem to my grandmother was very special to me and now it is tied in with a scam but at the same time, I have to admit that it is nice to be able to put your poems on a website that has your name attached as the writer and just have a collection.

I think that now that I know for sure that I am not winning anything and that my poems are only special to me, I can go to poetry.com and use it for my own personal gain. It bothers me to know that this company makes money off of other people's talent. I question if I was really good or just a big fool. Lesson Learned I guess.
