University Of Phoenix
Shock and Awe

Education & Science

Hi y'all. I work here. Now. Please understand, there are two sides to every story... But oddly enough, mostly both are true on this one.

I want to keep my post SHORT so everyone reads it, but accurate enough to convey how I feel.

I work for enrollment. Not everyone at every business does their job with integrity.

This is one of the toughest jobs I have ever done! And I get paid jack CRAP! But I wanted the free education that came as a benefit.

You have to understand, if we as enrollment counselors do not enroll enough students in a month, we get written up and over the course of a six month period, can be subjected to a reduction in pay! I have a lot of experience in sales and am accustomed to getting PAID when I perform, hit my goals, etc... This is NOT the case here. I will have to wait 8 or so months until I see something resembling a reward and at that, it is minimal! So whether you sign up for school or waste my time via email and messages, I get the SAME paycheck.

I get yelled at, hung up on and am expected to lead people by the hand through school. It sucks, frankly.

I have seen people, friends and family take classes and complete degrees first hand and it was no "easy" task!

But most of the time I do feel that the University is out just to make a buck. I desperately try to maintain a personl touch with my students so that they know someone really does have their best interest at heart! But it is draining the life right out of me.

It is so hard to see the people that truly care and put their hearts into this job get put through the wringer while others who do not have the experience or brains to be working there get patted on the back for going through the motions.

I feel left out, abandoned and I can't tell anyone. Not my boss, not my students... My friends and family are all going there. But recently I did start to discuss this with a few of my co-workers and nearly every one of them feels the same way. Underpaid, overworked and WAY underappreciated!

There has got to be a way to change this.

It IS more expensive to attend-it is a private, for profit school! ASK all the questions! Be honest with yourself! Some people enroll like people sell gym memberships... I didn't LIE if I didn't TELL you... A small omission is all, what's so bad about that.

And if you SIGN UP... Go to class and DO your homework. If you don't, then don't call ME crying the blues when you get charged for taking half a class and dropping off the face of the planet! You are given lots of tools, use them. You will get lots of emails, read them. Phone calls, save them. Write stuff down! Ask questions.

Online schooling is not the "easy way out!" It is much easier to walk by the computer and say... I'll just do it tomorow than to not show up to a classroom. BE accountable and responsible.

And be kind to your counselors, they work in a bare bones environment for pennies and are SUPER unappreciated.

Even if you don't go to school Here... Go SOMEWHERE! Or you'll be going nowhere.

I have homework to do...
