Kaplan University
Beware Deceptive and uncaring. Financial Aid students are only dollar signs to this so-called University! Ripoff

I have always been very careful when entering into any sort of long term financial commitments and I thought that attending this online University would be a safe investment. I was sold into attending Kaplan because I could not attend a regular full time school, nor could I afford it. I qualified for financial aid and decided to commit myself to higher learning.

The learning environment at Kaplan is well put together. However, the problem is with the Financial Aid office. From the beginning they constantly harrassed me for Verification paperwork that they would never, ever recieve no matter how many times I sent it. I faxed to the numbers they gave me, sending the same private and very important documents that they needed of me, yet they still insist that nothing was ever recieved.

I was never blocked from any classes and they never sent me a bill for any courses I was taking. I attended 3 semesters with no issues. January I decided not to return to school. At that point in time they became diligent about my supposed past due account, contacting me for payment for almost $9000 because they could not process my Financial Aid.

I am not incompetent and I did not blow off their attempts to collect information. They continue to accuse me of not providing them with paperwork that would ensure my rights to aid. Why on earth would I blow an opportunity like that to pay even more out of pocket?

I have tried numerous times to get help from both the Financial Aid office and the Student accounts office to no avail. I tried to clear up this mess before they changed my account status to past due, but they would only take payment and not assist me with my rights to Financial Aid. Both of these departments are call centers and not one person can help you with anything but what they are told to say on their computer screens. I asked to speak with a manager and all I got was an anonymous voicemail.

I am so sick from this whole mess. I am a mother of 3 and all I wanted was a better education to provide a good life for my children. Now they have sent me to collections and ruined my credit. Attending a University should not leave you in a worse predicament then before you started!
