Charges $298 False grant money lenders charge $298 through checking account

I got a phone call from these guys and they said they would send me some sort of package for grant money from $5000 to $25000 but i never got it when i agreed to pay $298 ("refundable") through checking account. Fortunately for me i only had about $150 in my checking account so i only received a NSF letter from my bank. I called the company, spoke to an actual person, and told them to cancel my check and they agreed. So far i haven't been charged $298, but i did have to pay $22 to my bank for not having the sufficient funds. If anyone else was able to successfully cancel this please tell me.
