Vanderbilt Mortgage
Unethical fraudulent billing of insurance Ripoff

Education & Science

I have a mobile home in Georgia with 6.5 acres of land that i purchased in 1996. My original loan was with Ford, however it has been transferred multiple times. Last year our mobile home loan was transferred from Associates Housing to Vanderbilt Mortgage. Since then if they do not receive our payment by the 2nd (it is due on the 1st) they begin calling us at work to find out when our payment will be sent. Needless to say we've never even been 30 days in arrears to them, but really their verbal harrassment and embarrasment is the least of my problems. I have the property for sell they that have financed. I called them for a payoff amount, and they were very willing to give me the information. They also informed me that there was a second amount that was also owed on top of my loan in excess of $10,000, and they didn't know what it was for. They said they would have to research it. When I asked them to send me a detailed statement of what I owed and what is was for they readily agreed however I've never received it. I have requested this information several times over the last 2 months. The last time I called they said it was probably for insurance that I had while I was with Associated. I have had my mobile home since 1996, and I've always carried insurance with a private insurance company. I've never had it through my mortgage company, but even if I did isn't $10,000 a "little" exceessive! That would be $1000 a year for insurance. This is only a double wide and my insurance averages about $400 a year. I also have a 2300 sq ft 2 story house in Knoxville, and my insurance is only $697 a year. Do they seriously think that I will fall for this and just send them the money? Has anyone else ran into this with Vanderbilt? What did you do to solve the problem?
