Ripoff dishonest fraudulent billing

My wife and I had paid our membership to Fit Works all at once when we joined, for the sole reason that we hate having funds automatically taken from our account. The sale rep working at the club, Jeremy, told us we would be done when our membership was complete.

He never said anything about our membership automatically renewing after it expired; in fact, after we argued so much that we didn't want it, he guaranteed that this would not happen. Of course, he no longer works there.

Also, we were not told that our contracts were going to be sold to ASF International.in addition, we were never told that we had to cancel our contract in writing.

Luckily, we never gave a bank account to the company. While they are not deducting money from an account, they do keep sending us monthly bills. We sent a cancellation letter right away, but they claim they will not cancel until the first extra billing has been paid.
But wait there is more, my contract was frozen when I became a personal trainer for the club.

How can I make them go away without getting a bad credit report. I refuse to pay for something that I never wanted or used.
