Ripoff False Advertising

Education & Science

I fell for this company's false advertising as well. I was told that I would be getting the CDs for free with only the shipping cost, which was immediately deducted from my account. I received the CDs just fine, but then a month later I saw that they had charged me $59.95.

I tracked down what this charge was for, and cancelled my subscription that I was automatically signed up for. I was told that I agreed to the terms and conditions, and I will honor that and say I made a mistake in not reading them, but they were not posted!

I work for a company that deals with terms and conditions, but ours are listed on the actual page, not hidden on our website. I went back to the site that I ordered from, and I would never have found the terms and conditions had I not known to look for them!

I was told in the advertisement that I was getting this CD for free, and I had to pay shipping. I completely respect the terms and conditons, you win, you got me, but I will not let the issue of false advertising go! If the ad would have stated that this was a membership that had other fees, thats cool! But all that was stated was that the Cds were free.

I have been corresponding with them for a week or two now trying to figure out what the heck is going on, and I finally got them to refund my money, but they are only going to be refunding $35, not the full $59.95. So when it comes down to it, you get the Cds for free if you cancel within their silly 10 day free trial, but if you dont, the Cds become $59.95.

I am not a dumb person, I never ever fall for these things, but I am going on a trip to Puerto Rico, so I wanted a way to refresh my Spanish. Well, I picked the wrong company. They have set themselves up with some nice loopholes.

I was so close to doing a chargeback, and I could have easily won this case, but I decided not to. I want to honor the fact that I agreed to these hidden terms. I am still fuming over the false advertising, and I was relieved to see that I was not the only one with this problem.

Anyways, that is my story. Please make sure to track down all terms and conditions when shopping online, companies know that the majority of their customers do not read them, and that is where the loopholes lie. Thanks!
