Credit card scam

My fiancee received a phone call on his cell phone from New Credit Financial Alternative. They told him a wonderful story about how they could help him rebuild his credit. They told him that they would send him a credit card with a $2500 limit that he could use to order out of any catalog he chose to. They also said that they would send him a second credit card that he would receive a little while after the first one with an unknown balance.

They told him that they could not tell him how much his second credit card limit would be until the bank looked over his credit score. He was told that he would find out his credit limit when he received his card.
He was told that they would electronically deduct $300 from his bank account so that they could send him his card. They also told him that he would receive 4 $100 vouchers that he could use towards his first 4 months payments. So, technically, he wouldn't pay anything for the card.

I was sitting there when he talked to these people. The only reason he took their offer is because we are getting married in Sept. And he thought that we could use this catalog card to purchase things for our wedding. He asked them several times if we could use this card for ANY catalog and they told him he could use it for whatever catalog he wanted.

When he finally received his packet from them, it included a credit card with a $7500 limit, instead of $2500. It wasn't even a credit card. It was a piece of plastic with some numbers on it. Along with that packet he received 2 thick catalogs—full of lots of junk. Stuff that you would buy at flea markets. Things we don't need!

We called them they told us they have a no refund policy. And they also told him that they have him on tape "agreeing" to their policy. Just a little cut and paste and anyone could do that.

So, they've taken $300 out of his bank account. His bank says that there is nothing that they can do about it. They said that he should investigate the company and try to get his money back from them. They siad that because they put the payment through as a check, he must have authorized it, and they can't stop payment on it. Then later we were told that if we had of notified them within 24 hours-they could have returned the check.

Since we didn't know that we were going to be scammed-we weren't watching the checking account. Isn't that why we put our money in the bank-so that they can protect it for us?

All I can say is NEVER give your bank account info to ANYONE! Nobody needs that info but YOU!
