Ripped me and my husband off for 10,000.00 dollars RIPOFF

In July we found Advance Design & Building Company on Salvona Rd.in Port Saint Lucie. We were excited about buying our first home, and decided to do it with this company. Their broker, had us rushing to sign the contract while nothing was really explained to us. We then were asked to put down 3,000 dollar non refundable deposit. He then told us that in five days we would need to have 20,916.00 more to put down as a deposit, so we just sent them a check for 23,916.00. We asked him if anything went wrong would we be able to get our money back, and he had said yes.

Needless to say that we fought for a long time to try to get a mortgage with a company that was unable to get the kind of loan amount that we needed. So on December 13th of we called the broker and told him that we would need to cancel the contract cause we could not get the loan, and we would need the 20916.00 back. Not only until a month or so later did we hear back from him. He notified us that we would not be getting any money back.

As you can imagine, I started to call a lawyer to help us out. The lawyer then told me by signing the contract that we did, we would be lucky to get half of the money back. Our lawyer then called the builder and they agreed to give us back 10,000.00 of our money back to us.

So here is my complaint. We still had 10,916.00 that was our money. This company took advantage of us being first time home buyers. We were rushed to sign a contract that was barely legible to read. We put our trust in this broker that if something did work out we would get our money back, and we were lied to. It is just as bad as someone being able to walk away with your 10,916.00 and not be able to do anything about it. These people have advertised the house that we were having built for sale, so they get their money in return as is! How can people do this to people?

Beware of this company as I am sure that they would do it to anyone else out there.
