Hampton Cove Christian Academy
Does not support teachers

Education & Science

We all have to decide what is important to us when chosing a school for our children; so this is not meant to be directive, only an admonishment. While there are many positive aspects to the school such as a principal who genuinely cares about the children (T. Martin) and the discipline and structure that she and the teachers foster. Aspects like that make a big difference in how comfortable I am when I drop off my children; I know they will be cared for. However, the reason that I am writing this report is that some time ago I chose to no longer send my children there because I do not wish to support an establishment that does not take care of its staff. I want the teachers who are responsible for my childrens' development to be paid well and treated fairly. The owner of Hampton Cove Christian Academy does not fit the bill.

The owner who I will not mention by name claims to be a strong man of God but time and time again I have discovered that he is not as he seems. I recently discovered that he refuses to pay teachers what they deserve; he hires degreed teachers and then pays them less than $30,000 a year; I have since become good friends with a former teacher at the school and she revealed why she thinks this is the case. He believes that women are usually only supplemental income for the family and do not need to earn a living wage since they have husbands who can take care of them; he never seems to understand that teachers should be paid for their experience and skill. No matter the reason—even if my friend was incorrect in her assessment—teachers do not stay there very long. The good ones get out the second they can find a new place to go where they are treated and compensated fairly. He is completely out for a profit and will stop at nothing to make more money for himself even if it compromises the most fundamental pillars of the establishment. I will miss many staff members including the administration, who I believe were well-meaning but shackled by the owner's greedy decision making, but I can no longer pay to send my kids there knowing what I know now.
