Well, I didn't buy home warranty from these guys, I "inherited" it when buying a house. According to our rules, the house must come with home warranty for 12 month or more. They are providing 13!
Than in August the a/c stopped cooling. I remembered about the blue folder, and quickly gave them a call. No problems, they said, they will send a guy to look at it. They guy came next day, after me calling them multiple times, and explained in broken English (nothing personal though), that "the whole outdoors part of the system needs to be replaced". Poked his finger on black spots on the coil radiator. Wow! And estimated the cost at $4-4.5k.
After speaking to Allied home warranty people the picture cleared up: they will pay up to $1500, the rest will be on me. Hmm, I started thinking I may try to live without the a/c on, under Texas summer skies.
Next morning I called another a/c repair company, and - long story short - I got it repaired for $700. The outdoor coil was fine.indeed, it just was not able to produce these black stains because the system is charged with the different type of freon (no chlorine in it).
The conclusion. These guys are swindlers. They hire subcontractors who provide you irrational estimates, and expect you to pay.
