The worst business I have ever dealt with

I am in the middle of a real mess with AHS. The 1 yr contract was bought as part of the settlement for my home. I contacted AHS about my AC handler leaking. An AC company called and set up an appt to come out. A technician was there for about 2 hours and then he said the handler needed to be replaced because of rust. The unit is very old. He called AHS and told them about the problem and they were to call me within a couple of days. I never heard so I called them again. They wanted a 2nd opinion and set up another company to come out.

This was a man and his wife. They work out of their home. This man told me all of the ductwork needed to be replaced also. I called the 1st co and asked what price they had submitted to AHS. I was told the cost to AHS would be 2072.00 with a cost to me of 136.00. I was told that they refuse to put in the unit that AHS would supply because it is inferior and would not last.

I asked them if the dutwork needed to be replaced. They said no, that it could be adapted to the new unit. I called AHS and asked what was happening with the work. The rep told me they chose to have the 2nd co do the work and the cost to me would be 1900.00! Apparently the 2nd contractor found many things that need to be done that aren't covered by my warranty. Even though he was at my house all of 10 minutes.

I asked AHS why such a wide range of cost to me from these contractors for the same job. They said they could investigate it but it would take 48 hrs. I have already been without AC for 2 weeks now. I asked what would I get if I take the cash out option. About 430.00. Not a fourth of the cost to fix the problem. I checked the BBB. They seem to have a satisfactory rating even though there are dozens of complaints on different websites. Any advice welcome.
