John Swan tree service scam

I gave Swan a $450 check as a down payment for removing a tree, scheduled to be done the next day. He immediately cashed my check but did not come out to do the job. He also did not phone me about it, and he failed to return numerous phone calls that I placed to him over the next few days. I then found posts on the Internet indicating that he was a scam artist... Taking people's money and then disappearing and not returning calls (exactly what happened to me).

That combined with my own bad experience prompted me to call the police to complain that I was ripped off. The deputy left 3 messages with Swan's phone machines, asking him to call me back. The next day, Swan finally phoned me and was very angry at me (swearing at me) for calling the police. When I asked him why he didn't call me back to tell me where he was and when he was going to come to do my tree, he claimed he was too busy too call (too busy to make a 30-second call to tell me what was going on???) He then offered to cut my tree in a few days or to give me a refund. Because I did not trust him anymore, I asked for the refund.

He promised to come to my house on the next Monday with my refund. But he failed to come on that day and he did not call me to explain why. I then left more messages with his phone machine, but he again failed to return my calls.

I think Swan is a total scam artist. He ripped me off for $450. Do not hire him to do anything!
