Costly Mistake

Although, the salesman was very nice and knowledgable the rest of the company falls short. I gave them a post-dated check for one of those "this deal is only available today" deals. (I have since found out from my bank, it is against the law to give a post-dated check, if the funds are not available the day you write the check.) They were to cash the check after my Social Security check was deposited on Friday which was 3 days away. They cashed it on Thursday, which caused $148 in overdraft charges because I of course had other items coming into the bank as well. When I called them about it, they said they made a little mistake. I decided to use another replacement window company and Columbia Home Improvement took 26 days to write the check to return my money. They said they had to wait until the check cleared. However, the check cleared on the day they deposited it, since the bank honored it and charged me overdrafts. I needed the money back promptly to pay the down payment to the other window company so they could order my windows and get them installed in time for the 30% tax credit expiring on Dec. 31. The new company (Window City), who I highly recommend, knowing of the trouble kindly ordered my windows for me without the required down payment. When time dragged on I borrowed some money to give Window City. My only income is Social Security Disabilty, so Columbia holding my $1,000 was the same as if they held a month's worth of your income. Think about it. Again, the salesman was great; the rest of the company behaved very badly. When I called for my refund they said it would be 21 days for they issued a refund (it took 26) and there was nothing on the cdontract stating they would hold the money, if I cancelled. Window City is great use them.
