L and A Mobile Home Repair
Mr. Romeyn Entry door, poor attitude, poor workmanship

Construction & Repair

On March 5th I contacted L and A mobile home repair to replace a front entry door to my home.

I gave the secretary the dimensions of the door and the style I wanted. I asked for a steel door with a storm door attached with handle and deadbolt keyed the same. She got back with me later in the day and informed me it might take up to 5 weeks to get a door in the style. I said okay and she gave me a rough price with install. Awhile later she called back and said the supplier had 1 door in the style I wanted and they could install it the next day.

On March 6th, the installer Rick arrived, he drove his van into our yard and the tires sunk into the grass making a hole. He got out and apologized and tried to fix it with his boots.

He started to unload the door and I noticed it was not the door I ordered, it was a fiberglass door the same type that was being replaced. I brought this to his attention, he contacted his office and they told him that's the door I ordered that the steel door would be 5 weeks.in need of a door I said to just get started anything was better than the current door I have.

Rick removed the old door and started installing the new one but said "I hate putting these doors in cause they never fit right." He continued his work swearing and complaining the entire time in front of my Wife and 4 year old. The door did not come with a deadbolt which I also asked for I let Rick know and he said it would be 20 dollars extra, I asked if he just wanted to stop and have someone else put the door in. He said no. He also stated he did not like putting in deadbolts and if he got in wrong they would have to buy a new door.

He got the door in, finished caulking and put our old door trim back on and tested the door. He had to slam it to get it to latch, I asked why he had to do that, he said that's how these doors shut its just fine.

On March 13th, after a week of slamming our door to secure it my Wife told me to call L and A to come fix it, or they would not be receiving payment. I called and spoke with the secretary and she sent Rick out again. He opened and slammed the door shut several times and said "its fine this door is the best one I ever got to fit" and he left.

They eventually sued me in small claims court, I went to court on October 26th and to my surprise they did not show up. The Judge aparently knows these people and gave them a second chance rescheduling the court date, I did not go to this because I had to work. The judge had my written and verbal statement already and still placed a judgement against me for nonpayment.

I will never use L and A again and advise everyone I come into contact with looking for home repair the same.
