Home Services USA Repair Management Corp Insurance for water line repairs

I agree with the person who questioned insurance for water line repairs. I got an unsolicited ad by Home Service USA (and many other names) saying that for $59 a year I could sleep easier not worrying if my water line was breaking.

First of all, I would hire a plumber... Not some company I don't know. Since I have worked for CT Dept. Of Consumer Protection for over 20 years, There were resources that I can tap that most people don't know about.

First of all... Read, read, read the small print... Which is on their web site. They give you 30 days to cancel, but you cannot make a claim for the first 30 days, even if you continue with the terms.in effect, one is paying for 12 months and only getting 11. Strike one.

Secondly, several states have complaints that Home Service would not pay for repairs. Start with the Attorney-general in North Carolina. Strike two.

One of their addresses is "Blue Lagoon Drive, Suite 400, Miami, Fl. Cmon... A suite number is a call center? Also, when I called the 877 number, the answer was "Louisville Water". If the repair is under a flower bed, patio or deck, they will not pay for reinstatement. Strike three.

In this day and age, you have to be an informed consumer. Call your water department in your town and see what they have to say. Also, check with your State department of consumer affairs or Attorney-general. Don't forget the computer... You can google the name of a company and add a space and the word "complaints".
