Legacy Furniture
Unethical, unscrupulous business practices that takeadvantage of consume

Construction & Repair

On 8-19-01, We ordered an $1100 custom sofabed which was promised in 5-8 weeks. We told the "gentlemen" at Legacy that we had guests coming and would need it even sooner if possible. We called the store after 6 weeks to find the order hadn't been started yet. At this time, we asked if we could cancel the order and were told that when they got in touch with the manufacturer they would request that the order not be started. This never happened. 8 weeks pass and we call again, they say the part is now in stock and our sofa is being made and it might get to us within a week.incidentally, we had promised to sell our current sofa by this date and do so because the buyer was relying on it; Legacy is aware of this and reiterate that we should have our new one within the week, also make mention of a loaner sofa until this is settled. 10 weeks pass, still no clue when we will get the sofa. Upon complaining we are offered $150 off and promised that it is arriving any day. We continue to call for updates only to have our calls unreturned or ignored. Most irritating is the pass-the-buck game where the salesman says he has to check with his boss, who, once we're able to get him on the phone says he has to check with the salesman. We are not able to cancel the order without losing our $400 deposit (we were returning customers and trusted them enough to leave a larger deposit). Another week passes, we are still sitting on the floor, Legacy will not return our calls so we continue to call them. After an angry exchange, the salesman promises to better compensate us once he "gets his hands on the sofa" since they are almost a month late. Finally, the sofa is to be delivered tomorrow, 11/3/01. Now they are only offering $100 off (or $150 store credit. Like we would ever shop there again!)
and are requiring cash or money order as payment. These salesmen are adept at deceiving customers with empty promises and avoid accountability with the "tag-team" scam. I am furious to have to buy this sofa when it has been such an inconvenience and ugly experience just getting it to our home. Buyer beware! Tell your friends! Go to a department store, they may be more expensive but you won't have to deal with unscrupulous dolts like those at Legacy.
