The blower on our heat pump was not working and we called ARS to check out the problem.
Andy (the service person) came out promptly and after being told what our problem was proceeded to put his hand on the blower and said the motor was bad. He came inside and told us our best course of action was to install a whole new unit. He could offer the $10000 unit to us for $7000 to $8000. Of course he would need to check with his boss first. Now if we wanted to only repair the unit he could not estimate how much, but it would be somewhere between $500 and $2500 and he would not be able to guarantee the fix would last. He then proceeded to call his boss and after finally locating him told us $8000 was as good as they could go.

Andy informed us of a $1500 tax credit we could get when filing our taxes next year. What he did not tell us was that Amana (the unit he was selling) also had a cash rebate until Nov. 30th.
He went on to tell us that Amana rated #1 with Consumer Report so we would be getting a better unit than the Carrier we now had which was only 10 years old.

Question 1 - Who was going to get the rebate from Amana (I don't think it was going to be us)
Question 2- Why tell us Amana rated #1 when it actually rates #7
Question 3- Why didn't Andy do more to check out the problem than place his hand on the unit
We decided to do nothing at this point as it felt like a scam.

We called out Sxxxx's Heating & Air Conditioning. He check the unit out and informed us of a clogged water line. He unclogged the line and checked on the Freon, which was okay. Total bill - $77.
ARS was definitely running a scam. I have since talked to others that have encountered the same problems with that company
sorry, allowing you to give a competitors name would instigate others to just file against their competition, to only come back later to suggest their company your comments on this policy are welcome!
