Rip Off Takes orders 4 items not in store, charges CC, calls back says item discontinued, month to refund money

On Jun 25, my friend and I went to International Furniture Liquidators (IFL) location on Liberty Road, Randallstown, MD for some furniture because I had glanced at their items from the outside and had liked the contemporary styles. It seems like there are many furniture shops claiming to be IFL.

This particular one has multiple locations and has website address www.iflinternational.com. We browsed at their items in store for a while, but didn't like anything. The person in charge, Nara, came and asked us if she can help so we asked her if there are anymore items not displayed here. She directed us to many catalogs laid out on a display bench/table.

After browsing through the catalogs, we liked one sofa set with a coffee table, so asked NARA how we can purchase that set. She said it would have to be special ordered and that she will have to call her boss and find out for sure if they can special order or not. So we approved and proceeded to negotiate the final price with delivery. NARA finally agreed on a final price of $2648 with delivery to Manassas, VA. I offered my debit card so NARA, to charge my card, called someone and gave my card info on the phone to a person I have never seen or don't know. Right there, an alarm went off in my mind as to why does this place not have a credit card processing machine.

After few minutes, the person at the other end of the phone faxed copies to be signedfor $2648. A couple of days later someone from their main office (now I know either Rockville or Laurel location) called and informed us that the items we ordered were discontinued and not possible to order. So she suggested we go to their other location and see if we like something there and just use that refund and credit. I said okay, we will let them know.

Couple of weeks later, I called the main office number and asked to speak to anyone responsible for crediting customers. The woman name on the phone said she was that person and her name was DIANA. I asked her to credit my debit card as we do not want to purchase anything from their stores because we only liked the item that was to be special ordered. She said she would do so and would take until the end of the week.

Couple of weeks later again, I noticed in my that there was no credit from IFL, so furiously I called DIANA and demanded why she has not credited my account. At this point, she pretended there were multiple people working for her or another dept had made a mistake. I demanded that is not my problem and that my conversation had been with her and it was her responsibility, not to mention good customer service, to see that I was credited.

She than made a stupid comment and said we do not refund! I was shocked and didn't know what to say. How can I or who can explain to this Mom and Pop's shop gone large that I did not return nor cancel this order. It was their incompetence that led to this circumstance. Finally, I had to threaten her that if I don't see a proof of this credit by close of business tomorrow, I am going to the Liberty Road location, where I made this purchase, and calling the police in front of other customers and filing a complaint. Only than she came to her senses and said she will process the refund by tomorrow and fax my copy.
I can read English. It clearly states, no refunds, changes, or cancellations for special orders. Yes that means no refunds, changes, or cancellations by the customer once that special order is placed. This place rotated and earned interest on my money for a month for free.

If you purchase anything from this place, DO NOT SPECIAL ORDER. I know that I am never going back there again. I came so close to losing $2648 for nothing and can't take that chance again.
