GE Appliances
Customer Relations refuses to support/warranty appliance parts and accessories

Construction & Repair

I bought two GE items for new appliances — one was a dryer plug/cord and the other was a power cord for my electric range.

Both items were defective. The dryer cord (name: Universal 3-Wire Dishwasher Power Cord) had exposed wire leads that were too short to connect to the dryer's lead wires. Electrical industry standards are to have 6 inches; GE's product had between 2 to 3 inches. And, I wasn't able to strip the cord's jacket and expose longer leads because their product has a pre-installed clamp that cannot be moved or removed temporarily. This product is made in China. It needs to be reported to the CPSC.

The GE 40-Amp Power Cord for Electric Ranges had a strain relief bracket that could not be assembled due to a screw that would not seat into its corresponding slot. So I called their Customer Relations to get another bracket sent to me, and they REFUSED! They told me to take it back to Home Depot and get another. Well, of course I know I could do that, but the principle here is that they produced a defective product, and are requiring me to incur further gas, time and inconvenience to get a replacement, and also force Home Depot to incur expenses to cover their defective product, instead of just mailing me a new bracket for MAYBE a dollar, max.

Result for GE?

You can forget me ever buying one of their appliances ever again, and I'll consciously try to avoid buying any of their products, altho that's nearly impossible with their size and market domination.
