Complaint Description:
I wish to caution prospective customers of R & D Boat Supply, Inc. 22 Washington Street Cambridge, Maryland 21613 Ensure you get an estimate, if not it will end up the same as giving the owner a blank check. Surely any professional who is in the business long enough should be able to give an estimate within 10%. I have a 21 foot boat and asked for an estimate on some of the simple work such as the installation of VHF antenna, mounting a VHF radio, install a transom transducer, etc. He said he was unable to give any estimate. Well, the bill came to $9,725.83. Shocked isn't the word for it especially since he prefers not to take credit cards. Trust me you should protect yourself and demand an estimate. Had I thought I was going to pay $9,725.83 I would have curtailed some of the work. Another example of watching your pennies —he configured a system which was absurd so I asked him to redesign it. It did and charged me extra.in otherwords, whether he does the job correctly or has to redo it, the clock is still ticking. So far I have had to redo the VHF antenna installation because the work was shoddy; And replaced the horn cover, he used a face plate that was 3 times larger than the hole. If the owner is not willing to give the customer an estimate I CAUTION THE CUSTOMER TO GO ELSEWHERE.

Although I am not looking for a settlement, I am asking the BBB to place an ADVISORY for any customer seeking to do business with the R & D Boat Supply Co.
