Construction & Repair

A Platinum Protection showed up on my Mother-in-law's door step on a Friday evening and convinced her she needed a security system. The installers showed up immediately and put in a system consisting of a sensor on the front door, a sensor on the back door, a smoke/fire detector and a keypad attached to the wall. They also gave her a keyfob and "medical pendant". They told her she would have to call the fire department and police department to get the thing activated. They signed her to a 5 year monitoring agreement at $40 per month and left. My wife and her sisters found out about it in time to cancel within the mandated cooling off period and called and mailed in the cancellation form in time. When I inspected the system I wasn't surprised to find the work was pretty shoddy, holes hacked into the wall and wiring a mess. I was surprised to see that there were no sensors on any of the windows or on the sliding glass door leading to the back yard. I guess as long as the intruders came through the front door or the back door she was secure.

Platinum sent a letter acknowledging the cancellation and called to set up a time to remove their equipment. My wife arranged to be at the house on Friday afternoon between the hours of 1 and 5 P.M. As requested by Platinum. When no one had arrived by 4:30 P.M. My wife called their Provo office and was told that the Houston office had allready been closed for the Winter. They told her the nearest techs were in LaPorte but they would not be able to make it to remove the equipment that evening. My wife told them they would have to come on a Saturday then since we could not take off work again to wait for them. They said they did not know when they would be able to come retrieve the equipment. We told them we would remove the system and send it back to them but they insisted that if we did that we would damage the equipment and we would be responsible for paying for the cost of the equipment. We have not heard back from them.

I warn any one who considers doing business with these folks to beware - Once they sell you a system you are on your own - they close up the local sales offices for the winter and have no one to service your account. We just want this crap out of the MIL's house!
