Took deposit and have not heard from them since

I emailed from the website and ask about solar water heating on 03/12/08, was emailed back and given a quote, I never thot anything of it because I knew exactly what I needed and how much i paid for solar at my other home.
They emailed me back with a quote and said they would come and measure and get half for the deposit. They came on the 12, and said they would install on the 14 2 days later. I received a phone call and they said that the installers wife had a baby and could not install untill monday.

Well it has been 7 days and I cannot reach them by phone or by email, they do not respond and then I was told they went out of business 8 months ago. How is that possible. How can a company keep a website if they are out of business. I am not sure if I have been ripped off but it sure seems that way.
