Took cash payment and credit card payment for same job. Paid twice!

In 2007 my Mother and Father contracted services from Metro Rooter to have their sepic pumped. Metro Rooter performed this service to our satisfaction. When they went to recieve payment, for some reason my Fathers card did not work. Maybe it was demagnitized or what not we do not know. My wife and I then took my Mother to their office to pay in person using cash instead. We got a receipt and we made it clear to report it so we would not get double charged incase the payment from the credit card went through and the secetary said there would be no problem.

Well, there was a problem. They just withdrew $175 from my Mothers account for that service we paid cash for. We tried to find the receipt and ofcoarse cant find it, but it is funny that they do not have a copy of it also.
My Mother changed her number a while back and they said they tried to call it. They said they also sent out letters, but she never received it. They said well we sent it out. My question is if we said we had a receipt and lost it that we are made to feel like we lied? If they sent out a letter we want to see a copy of that letter or we will state that they in turn did not send it.in MY OPINION I think their ops for taking cash is seriously flawed and in my OPINION as a large corporation makes them look like a mickey mouse outfit. The office workers (Not sure which person) in my opinion were very rude. Also, they said the office manager was gone for the day and that he would pursue the matter then. Thats very convenient.

Here are some other points:
If the card did not work back then, how did it work now almost 1 year later?
Why did they take almost 1 year to charge it to our account?
Why did they only charge the $175 without fees, because as a painting contractor, if I receive late payments they will be charged a extra fee as this is a normal practice in any business field.

Too many questions unanswered. We are in outrage over their business practices thus far and will tell anyone we know that needs a plumbing serice to patronize elsewhere.
