HJ Martin broke our agreement for $300 6 months financing, and threatened to sue me for refusing their illegal terms

I purchased a small amount of materials for a tile floor from H.J. Martin and Sons. I applied for, and received, 6 months no-interest financing for my $300 purchase. After I took the tile home they called me back and said the financing was a mistake. Financing requires a $600 purchase. They demanded full payment.

I let them know that I would continue making payments for 6 months based on our agreement, and I would not make a full payment. I budgeted for 6 months, and they promised to give me 6 months.

3 months later, I had made 3 payments of $46 each. The CFO called me and said they were going to sue me in small claims court if I didn't pay in full immediately. Again, I refused. (The law is on my side - I had an agreement for the 6 months financing. They can't just cancel it because they decide later that it isn't the best deal for them.)

Over the next month they made additional threats of a small claims suit, which I ignored. I asked the CFO if there was someone higher up I could talk to. She said that her brother (or brother-in-law maybe?) was the CEO. I couldn't talk to him, and it wouldn't matter anyway - he always sues after 3 months as a policy and he's not about to bend. Well, they never sued. After seeing that I wouldn't back down, they stopped bothering me and I paid it off.

If a company can't stick to their agreements over 6 months interest of $300, how can they be trusted with a larger agreement for a more sizable project? The worst part is that the idiocy goes from the girl at the counter to the CEO. They take policy over common sense. I will never do business with them again, and I would recommend anyone else to avoid them as well.
