Thieves ripoff

I hired Cornerstone Custom Builders to build my new vacation home in St Germain, Wi. There are too many problems to list here so I'll try to give an overall account of my problems. My son Dan is helping me. I moved in on Dec. 26th and went through a punch list shortly after. There are over 100 problems on that list, some which have still not been repaired.

There are also some major problems, like six floor to ceiling windows which are all crooked and not in line with the others, a $2500 glass shower enclosure that leaks, walls and ceilings that are uneven, heating system that does not work properly and is ruining the floor upstairs, only 2" of concrete where ther should be 4" as stated in the contract, etc. Cornerstone has been slowly fixing all the minor items on my punch list, but it's been since Jan. 8th.

At one point the owner promised me he would have everything done by June 2nd. It is now July 5th and it's still not done. On the many big problems the response we got from the project cooridinater, Darren Rubo, was either, "I'm not going to fix that, thats the way it looks in the model", "what do you want me to do about it?", "I'm not going to do anything about that" and even laughed at us a few times.

All this with no explanation, no apology for the poor workmanship, or even some kind of compromise. Everyone, including licensed inspectors, that see these obvious flaws has agreed with us, and can not believe the attitude of Cornerstone. These are just a few small examples of the many, many, problems. I have tried every different approach to reason with them and get this home finished.

After 7 months, only a small portion of the minor problems have been completed. I have talked to several attorneys who told me that if we take Cornerstone to court, it would take years, and cost thousands of dollars. At this point I do not even want to go up north to be in my new home. The excitement I felt that first day has been replaced with anger, hurt, stress, and alot of tears. I am at a loss as to what to do.

Cornerstone simply lies, blames other people, replies to our legitimate questions with sarcasam and childish statements, insults us, makes untrue accusations, and has an overall attitude of just not caring. At one point the project cooridinator had to send me an apology for a unbelievably unprofessional email he sent us. I have been very cooperative, even agreeing to pay an extra $900 for a mistake they made. Everyone of my payments was on time, why can't they show me the same consideration?

Up until Dan got involved, they felt they could just push me around. On the advice of an attorney Dan met with the owner of Cornerstone, Glenn Schiffman, and Dave Cox. Around April 15th. They promised me that they would take care of all the problems. Dan went to the house on June30th and only a small portion of the items have been repaired.

In emails to Dan Cox claimed certain items were done, but they were not. Dan also found a rag soaked in paint or stain in the washing machine which ruined clothes that were in there. Every time they have come in to fix one problem, I wind up with new problems. The entire house had to be repainted and then some sections repainted again. They did not cover up most of the furniture appliances, etc.

The painting is still not done after 7 months. The heating system does not work properly and is ruining the upstairs bedroom. They've known about this for at least 3 months. I have pictures, inspectors reports, notes and all emails between us and the builder.
