American Home Shield
Home Warranty The Home Warranty they offer does not cover anything, nor does it ever fix anything

Construction & Repair

This would be a great report. American Home Shield and home warranties are becomming increasingly popular and I have found a lot of complaints online. I am not the only person with a compaint like this. They have even started offering a new policy, but not allowing any of their current customers to upgrade their policy to the new policy that includes, previous/pre-existing conditions.

On 3/8/07, we moved into our home in Flower Mound. We had a home warranty through American Home Shield. On that evening, the plumbing backed up. Two days later, on 3/10/07 a plumber used his rooter to unplug the clog in the main sewer line. This cost us $55.

On 3/31/07, just 3 weeks later, the main sewer line was clogged once again. It was unclogged. I asked the plumber what the cause was and he said he saw some hair in the clog. But that was all he could tell me. Again, this cost us $55.

On April 14th, the main sewer line was clogged yet again. Not wanting to waste my money and time, I just bought a main sewer line liquid that would work over an 8 hour period to remove buildup. As of today, still no clogs (although it has only been about 2 weeks). Keep this story in mind, AHS came out and performed TWO "IMPROPER REPAIRS".

Now, on the weekend of 4/21, we noticed that the A/C was leaking badly. We called AHS and they sent someone out on 4/24. The electrician noticed that there had been a repair to the pipe coming from the drip pan made that was no longer holding. A week later my wife is left a brief message saying that the A/C problem is not covered due to a previous "improper repair". We were not sure if the electrician was still working on it or not and we did not have his number so we waited to see if he would call us back after he found the part like he told me was going to try to do when he came by originally.

I have since opened a complaint with the better business bureau and called several times. The best I have gotten from anyone on the phone is that it is "pending". The man would not give me a phone number of someone who can help nor would he transfer me to his manager. My first obvious question, is why is it that I have paid AHS twice for 2 improper repairs, and then they tell me they will not fix my A/C because of an improper repair? Even if the repair had never been made, and it leaked all last summer for the previous owners, it would still cost them the exact same amount.

They have recently started issuing new contracts that include "pre-existing conditions". With wording like below, they can work around having to ever fix anything in a house!

From the contract:
"AHS is not responsible or liable for repairs related to inadequacy, lack of capacity, misuse, improper installation, previous repair or design, manufacturer's defect, and any modification to the system or appliance."

It is extremely hot (82 degrees inside tonight) in our house and still cannot get AHS to move and fix anything. I am afraid that if I have it fixed, then they will never reimburse me. I am looking for either AHS to fix the A/C, or I want the $110 reimbursed for the 2 improper repairs and the rest of my warranty, thru March '08 reimbursed.
