Protect America
Ripoff NO EQUIPMENT and NO MONITORING but LOTS OF unauthorized credit card CHARGES!

This is very long; the short version is: Protect America is a ripoff, avoid dealing with them!

I found Protect America on the web-they required contact information just to see the offers. This should have been a red flag; within minutes, my phone was ringing off the hook.

Using the "one day only" free equipment offer, a very pushy saleswoman convinced me to sign up with them before I even closed on my new home. She assured me I would be able to cancel if the closing didn't go through or any other reason and that monitoring charges wouldn't begin until I was moved in and ACTUALLY BEING MONITORED.
First they sent the equipment to the wrong address. This was determined to be my fault, so I hunted the equipment down. It was the wrong equipment. Unfortunately, by the time I tracked it down, my 7 day "familiarization" period was up—after jumping through many hoops, I found someone who agreed to send the right equipment if I returned what I had received. I did that.

I received the equiment almost 2 weeks later.By this time, I had received several bills form Protect America; some for monitoring I hadn't had and some they were not able to explain. (This is a frequent thing with them—I even had one of their reps tell me I should just "disregard" some charges because even she couldn't figure out what they were for.)

Anyway by that point I was fed up. I sent the new equipment back but have had a VERY hard time cancelling; I've spent a lot of money on certified mail trying to do so and shipping back their equipment.

To top it all off, they are charging my credit card for bogus "restocking fees" for having cancelled but are still sending bills for monitoring—Protect America isn't just a ripoff, they are also a mess. Avoid dealing with protect america!
