Preferred Home Builders
Ripoff fraudulent unsupervised construction

Construction & Repair

Preferred Home Builders lied to us, took our money after lies about completed work. Very poor work, hid damaged pipes, couldnt follow the plans. We hired them to remodel parts of our house. The architect, Ron Levy has been associated with other names, companies and such that are in lawsuits or closed down. Ron's name, and different versions of it appear in several places on the contractors association website. The names eventually lead to the company red rose construction, which appears to have dropped off the face of the earth after alligations of fraud and such. Below are some items we put up with. Do not recommend preferred home builders.

Prior to signing the contract Tom told us workers would take advantage of summer daylight hours and arrive by 7 am (including Saturday) and work to sunset on the project. This was later reiterated by his foreman (Jose), who commented how the summer provided additional work hours. For the majority of the time, workers generally arrived between 8-9 am (2 hours after sunrise) and leave by 330 pm (1-2 hours before sunset).
The drawings were not submitted on time, yet he took our money anyway - total delay due to contractor was several months. They couldnt get it right. The city thinks them incompetent and doesnt know what they are doing.
The roof tiles were removed at least 1.5 months prematurely. PHB was aware of a rainstorm that was to hit the following week. PHB did not adequately protect the roof, resulting in interior damage of drywall that was not going to be replaced.

The workers were using the hole in our bathroom floor at the toilet.

Verbally told each day that workers were on-site but no workers ever showed up. When questioned later, told that it was too wet following rains.

We never approved the changes made to the drawings after review/approval by the city. When we finally received a copy of the drawings and noticed many mistakes, we met Tom on and went over all the highlighted issues. He said he didn't want to resubmit the plans to the architect or city for correcting because it would hold up the job. He assured us his workers knew what they were supposed to do. He asked us to go over our set of highlighted plans with Site supervisor (Ken) just to make him aware and leave our set of drawings at the house for reference (even though we had no city stamp on ours).

Office Manager (Roy). Lying about workers on-site and things done. This was the second time caught in a lie.
Workers used our personal equipment and supplies we had stored workers broke the water pipes and the water had to be shut off at the street. Lead worker on-site said he called a plumber to come fix it but had to wait for the call back and it would probably be the following day before they could repair it. Days later, when we asked about the water, PB told us they were unaware that we needed to continue water service.

After weeks of requesting copies of city fee receipts, we went to the city and got copies of the statements for monies paid for permits. PHB overcharged us for city fees.

Ken with PHB informed us that the trenches for the plumbing were completed as of that day We know there were no workers at the house that day, and the trenches weren't any further along from the day before.
The footings for the foundation are not per the current drawings in several locations. And yet they insist they are ready to install the plumbing

Cook stove was found in garage under a flannel shirt and trash, left behind by a worker. Certainly a fire hazard.

The front door has a scratch across it and the front porch bricks are broken, all from the wheel barrel use during demo work.

Because of incompetent workers and no supervision, the city basically condemned our home, stating it was unfit for people to even work in there. The city said they structurally compromised the house.

Several times PB has projected the foundation inspection to be 4 days away. When this day passes, they say four more days away.

RECEIPTS - Several occasions I asked for receipts for city permits. I was told by Office Manager (Roy) that they were available on-line via the city website. When I went to the website it required an application number and PIN. When I asked Roy for this information, he said I had to go to the city to get it. I found from the city that the application number and PIN are on the actual permits held by PHB.

The pool is trashed with debris

Tom said
1. This happens in the course of construction
2. He will replace pool pump if it breaks
3. He is there to work, not clean up
4. He has 60 other jobs right now
5. He wants to be at all inspections
6. we must ONLY call him or his office. No others.

Talk to no workers
the whole experience was terrible. Another job of PHB recently has massive water damage. The overhead pipe that PHB installed burst in several areas, leading to collapsing ceilings. They turn their water off everytime they leave the house for fear of another mishap.

This is not all, but i cant fit it all in.
