Permanent "stops" keep the windows from opening fully

Construction & Repair

I wanted to put a window fan in the part of the house where central air doesn't directly go, and learned that my beautiful, New, ApplebySystems windows will not allow me to open them wide enough to put a "short" window fan in it. These are VERY expensive windows, and, silly me, I expected that they would work like most windows, only better.

Yes, of course, I called the company, asked the question, and was told that the brace that stops the window from opening further cannot be taken out by either the home owner or their service people without VOIDING the warranty! Buyer beware double time.

In case you want to look at what has me upset: http://www.applebysystems.com / It seems to me that when a product has an unusual mode of functioning, they ought to make that clear before the buyer makes a decision. Some of my new windows open enough to accommodate a short window fan, but not the ones in the room that doesn't get direct central air conditioning breezes. When the windows were put in, I understood that the "stops" were for security.
