Dry Cleaner Of Manlius
A careless, clueless and rude business

On a recent trip to Syracuse, I dropped off two shirts to be pressed at “The Drycleaners of Manlius”. I was very busy, and the clothing got wrinkled in my luggage, so I figured I’d take them to a pro. I took them first to a drycleaner in Cazenovia, but for next day service they said I had to go to their other location in Manlius. That wasn’t out of my way, so I dropped the shirts off on Friday morning 7/1 at 10am. I was told they’d be ready that evening, but I said I’d pick them up Saturday morning. This was perfect because I had a family dinner Saturday night and a Highschool reunion on Sunday.

As I’ve said, this was a very busy weekend for me, so the drycleaning was one less thing to be concerned with. I got to “The Drycleaners of Manlius” at noon on 7/2. My pants were nicely pressed, but I was told my shirts were LOST! What? “Don’t you do work on premises? ” I asked. “Yes” was the answer, so I implored the two young girls at the counter to please look and call me when the shirts were found. At 3:45 (15 minutes before their scheduled closing), I called to see I f they found the shirts. “No” was the response, so I told them I was from out of town, very dissatisfied, and needed to hear from the owners ASAP to discuss the matter. Luckily I found that “Peter Harris” in Fayetteville was open, so what was supposed to be a quick trip to the drycleaner turned out to be a lot of aggravation and expense to replace my lost items.

After returning from my trip, I gave “The Drycleaners of Manlius” a full business day to get back to me, but no call. The disclaimer on the ticket says “The company’s liability with respect to any lost or damaged article shall not exceed 10 times our charge for processing it.”, so I guess my check for $38 will have to settle the deal.

I’ve been taking articles to drycleaners on a regular basis for the past 20 years, and have never experienced a lost article. I guess I may be lucky in that respect. However, If wronged by a business, I expect a sincere apology and an explanation of how they plan to rectify the situation. But…no call, so I must deem “The Drycleaners of Manlius” to be a careless, clueless and rude business.
