Auto nation service & tire centers told me i needed $400 rear brake pads that i didn't need and they never even inspected the car at all as verified by subsequent mechanic. Original clip still on drums on fairly new truck never removed

Cars & Transport

I took my 2009 Chevy Colorado Truck, that had 48000 miles on it, into Power Chevy Superstition Springs in Mesa, Arizona, for a standard brake inspection. After two hours the mechanic (Tim Fritzpatrick) came out to "give me the bad news".

Said I needed $1200 dollars of work, with $400.00 just for some rear brake pads (which were down to. 2). I said that is kinda high for brake pads, and he said that my truck needed "special brake pads" that he had to special order.

So being that I am a woman, and expect to get taken advantage of for any mechanical work, said, thanks but no thanks, I'm going to get a second opinion. With that he got a kinda sick look on his face and I left.

I immediately went over to the new Brakesplus that just opened and went in and said that I was told by the Chevy dealership that I needed rear brakes and they were down to. 2. So, he says fine, they will do their own evaluation and get back to me. After about 20 minutes, the manager comes out and asks me to come back into the shop where my truck was up on the lift. He had the brakes apart and said, "not only do you not need brakes, your brakes have never been inspected"! He showed me some sort of clip that holds the drum in place and is put on new cars and trucks and said, in order to inspect the first time, the clip is broken and then the drum is pulled off in order to get to the part that is where the pads are. He said that my brakes had never been inspected before and not only that my brakes were fine and did I definitely did not need new pads. And, even if I did, there are no "special" pads that I need and they only charge $79.00 for rear brake pads so where does Chevy come off trying to rip people off saying the need "special" $400.00 pads?

How many other women or elderly people have they ripped off? I was going to buy a new Chevy truck soon but you can bet I will never go to Chevy again so good luck with this policy that probably is not only condoned but encouraged in the Chevy Service center. FU Chevy, I'm done with you and will tell everyone I know what is going on there in order to warn them not to trust these people and on a side note, I also didn't need all that other stuff that Tim from Lane 2 said I desperately needed. I will never buy from them again! What kind of country do we live in where every body seems to want to rip off every body else? Nothing like Mom, Pop, Apple Pie and Chevrolet!
