Cars & Transport

Buyer beware! On May 18th of this year I brought my car to the Palm Coast Texaco Xpress Lube. 13 Days later on a return trip from North Carolina the oil light came on in the car and we exited at the next exit and found oil all over the engine coming out of the tail pipe all over the back of the car etc. We had the car towed home from Ridgeland, SC and called the Xpress lube to notify them of our problems. The rep refused to discuss it with us and was extremely defensive from the moment we called that they "hand tighten" their filters and we drove the car "5,000" miles, a trip to North Carolina is not 5,000 miles. Etc.

So we had the car towed to Volkswagen where the technician told us the problem was a result of our last oil change. I should note that this was in line with the Texaco Xpress lubes own warranty policy that they be contacted first about problems with their service as they want first dibs on the car basically so they get a chance to say its not their fault before anyone else says it is.

Volkswagen estimates the damage at $8,200 I found a used engine as ours is shot for about $3,500.

After numerous calls to other XPress lubes and their corporate office and getting nowhere no returned phone calls no help whatsoever we wrote them this letter http://seanmayhew.com/texacoxpresslube.htm which they completely ignored the entire 30 days. Not even a 'get lost we're not paying you' response. I guess they are all single car families too who would have no problem letting this drag on month after month.

All I wanted was for this company to treat me with respect and replace what they damaged with similar parts ie a used engine would be fine. Now we're going to be forced to take them to small claims court.

I have no interest in causing ill effects to their business but this has been going on for 4 months that our family has been limited to one car all because of their negligence. I've done my best not to make a public display but I'm tired of being ignored. Its important for consumers to know when businesses rip off other consumers. Especially when property damage is involved in multiples of $1,000. This has been an enormous expense and inconvenience to our family and this company has shown a complete disregard. As far as I'm concerned there can be no argument to the contrary that this is not their responsibility as they refused to look at the car even after I called them first to have it looked it. They passed so I had to go somewhere else.

I am you. Your typical work every day 9-5 guy. This is no small sum and I'm sure many of you would find financial burden in these repairs. If you're interested in helping please send an email to their corporate address at xpresslube@chevrontexaco.com
