Sewell SAAB - Hummer Of Plano & Transition Auto "Finance" (a.K.A. Leasing) Mislead on price and financing by over $8000! Traveled 40 miles for heartbreak, upset and lies! Ripoff

Cars & Transport

In brief I have been emotionally crushed by a dealership in the area— I was hysterically crying when my father came back to the dealership to pick me up yesterday— My eyes were so swollen this morning I was almost too embarrassed to go to work, not to mention how I had told everyone there I was coming back with my new car in just a little while.

Here's what happened as I told it to the better business bureau today, and the Federal Trade Commission... And then I found out the bastards lowered the price on the car!

I located a "pre-owned" vehicle at the Sewell dealership via Yahoo on 08/07/04. I called and spoke with the salesman, and was pleased with the info I heard about the car (2001 VW Jetta, approx. 46,740 miles, at a price of 10,499.00).

I traveled from South Arlington to Plano the same day, test drove the car and was ready to take it. I had available 25% of the price to place as down payment. Still, my credit is not the best; I realized that I would not get the best percentage rate, and was prepared for this.

Over the course of the following three days I was informed by both Jeff McCracken (Salesman) and Mr. Wallis (Finance Manager at Sewell Plano) that they were working hard to find a finance company that would take me onboard. Tuesday I was contacted by Ron Mayberry of Transition Auto Financing; he asked me extremely brief questions regarding my finances. When I questioned him about where we were on the financing he acted annoyed and hurried, telling me he and his company worked to help those with less than perfect credit get into vehicles and at the same time re-establish their credit— Neither he or Jeff McCracken at Sewell ever mentioned "leasing" nor did anyone ever give me the option of a co-signer for the car purchase.

Tuesday afternoon (08/10/04) Jeff McCracken called me to say that I had been approved; he gave me instructions regarding what Ron Mayberry at Transition Auto Financing would require information wise from me.

I talked to Mayberry again that afternoon to be certain I knew exactly what was required— During Tuesday I spoke with Ron Mayberry and Sewell reps a total of six times (Mayberry 4 times, McCracken 2 times); at no time did either one of them mention that what I had been approved for was a lease.

Wednesday, 08/11/04, I faxed all docs required to Ron Mayberry's attention; he calls me later stating that I should meet them today because the salesman (Jeff McCracken) "will be tied up" from 6 P.M. On that night, and he (Mayberry won't be available the next day or night either— I make arrangements to leave work early, and have my father drive me from Grapevine to Plano to finalize the purchase.

Once I arrive McCracken greets me, gets me to fill out a check for the down payment plus one months payment, then goes to get Mayberry. Once he arrives and everything appears on track I tell my father he can leave. Once he is gone, and I am alone, Mayberry begins putting contractual paperwork in front of me for signature; as I am signing he begins telling me of stipulations regarding the "sale" of the car, such as penalties for going over 15,000 miles per year.

I questioned this because it didn't not sound like a sale but some type of a lease; he stated it was a stipulation of the buyers option— this is when I asked why this sounded like a lease— He still doesn't state that this is a lease even as he puts the paper in front of me planning stating at the top that this is a lease—

I question this more, and he finally shows me on the paper where I can simply turn the car back in after 3 years for only 350.00 or I can purchase the car for an additional 5220.00 — I said "this is a lease? Why didn't anyone tell me that?" He looks at me and says "no one told you that?"

No one, not the salesman (who had disappeared with my check) or Ron Mayberry of Transition Auto Finance, had ever said anything about this being a lease deal.

I was lead to believe I had been approved for financing— They tried to say I had been but through Mayberry's company which was buying the car and "leasing" it to me as a favor. A favor at 18%, 301.00 a month for 3 years, plus 2600 down, and another 5220.00 at the end of 3 years.

A car that was listed as for sale for 10,499.00 would cost me approx. 18,700. And no one was going to tell me anything about what was going on.

I left in tears, extremely upset. I called the pre-owned manager who repeatedly could not get my name right, and insisted it must have been a mistake. He continued to try to get me to see that this a great deal, acting as though they could get me to come back.

Mayberry won't answer his phone, although he supposedly called and apologized to Sewell saying that he could have sworn that he told me it was a "balloon" lease.

They have now dropped the price of the car and I wish the hell I could get my hands on a rocket launcher! I've also found out that Transition Auto "Financing" as listed on their fax letterhead, and stated to me by both Mayberry and Sewell, is actually Transition Auto "Leasing."

Here is a link to the Yahoo Auto page where they're trying to sell it for a lower price! (I was told that the 10,499 was the absolute lowest they were going to sell it for!)
