I needed a rental truck in short notice (3 weeks, which is short notice to rental companies apparently.) I called everywhere and thought I was in luck when Budget Rent A Car said they had exactly what I needed and for the time I needed it. The cost? Well, for 3 days and 240 miles I was quoted a total (with deposit) of $390.

I show up to pick up the vehicle during my lunch break from work and they laugh at me because I tell them what I was quoted. I "need to brush up on my math skills." The total deposit (alone) will be $510! Then he spits out three options that I can't even understand. 1: I can, for $18/day I can get the insurance with a $250 deductable. 2: For $23/day I can get the insurance with no deductable. 3: I can be liable for the $50,000 vehicle. I was not briefed on this when I reserved the truck. Oh, and "my personal car insurance won't probably cover it. I chose the first option.

I get drive the vehicle half the distance for the move and call customer service where I am told that the deposit (which is already taken out of my account) is outrageous and it will all be recified in the morning (when A Z is open.) The insurance will be dealt with too (after calling my insurance company, I know it covers it thank you.)

I call back in the morning and get the complete opposite response and am hung up on (on purpose) in the process. I call back, nothing gets taken care of and now I'm still paying for this insurance which I didn't need.

Because so much more was taken out of my account than was expected (which I was told it wouldn't be) I was in danger of bouncing a rent check. I had to get to the bank first thing this morning after borrowing money to cover everything.

Oh, and they don't take CC's over the phone becuase, "they could be anyone's CC." Now, how many businesses don't take that over the phone?

I dropped the truck off and am anticipating more charges I didn't want or need.
